چکیده

The theory of stretching and compression of short light pulses by chirped volume Bragg gratings (CBGs) is reviewed based on spectral decomposition of short pulses and on wavelength-dependent coupled wave equations. Analytic theory of diffraction efficiency of CBG with constant chirp and approximate theory timedelay dispersion is presented. Comparison of approximate analytic results with exact numeric coupled-wave modeling shows excellent agreement for smooth heterogeneities of CBGs. © The Authors. Optical pulse compression based on nonlinear silicon waveguides and chirped Bragg gratings

Due to the growing demand for higher bandwidth, employing optical devices instead of electronic devices in data transmission systems has attracted much attention in recent years. Optical switches, modulators and wavelength converters are a few examples of the required optical devices. CMOS compatible fabrication of these devices, leads to much more growing of this technology. Optical pulse comp...

Volume-chirped Bragg gratings: monolithic components for stretching and compression of ultrashort laser pulses

An innovative type of optical component—a volume Bragg grating—has recently become available commercially and has found wide applications in optics and photonics due to its unusually fine spectral and angular filtering capability. Reflecting volume Bragg gratings, with the grating period gradually changing along the beam propagation direction (chirped Bragg gratings—CBGs) provide stretching and...

2-μm wavelength, high-energy Ho:YLF chirped-pulse amplifier for mid-infrared OPCPA.

A 2-μm wavelength laser delivering up to 39-mJ energy, ∼10  ps duration pulses at 100-Hz repetition rate is reported. The system relies on chirped pulse amplification (CPA): a modelocked Er:Tm:Ho fiber-seeder is followed by a Ho:YLF-based regenerative amplifier and a cryogenically cooled Ho:YLF single pass amplifier. Stretching and compressing are performed with large aperture chirped volume Br...

Beam Reflection by Transversely Chirped Volume Bragg Grating

Reflective uniform volume Bragg gratings (VBGs) in photo-thermo-refractive (PTR) glass are used as narrow-band output couplers in high-power lasers with different gain media [1]. VBGs with longitudinally chirped grating period are used for stretching and compression of ultrashort laser pulses in well established chirped pulse amplification schemes [2]. Here we discuss reflective VBGs with chirp...

Large-aperture chirped volume Bragg grating based fiber CPA system.

A fiber chirped pulse amplification system at 1558 nm was demonstrated using a large-aperture volume Bragg grating stretcher and compressor made of Photo-Thermal-Refractive (PTR) glass. Such PTR glass based gratings represent a new type of pulse stretching and compressing devices which are compact, monolithic and optically efficient. Furthermore, since PTR glass technology enables volume gratin...
